I’m team St. Berry all the way, but I hate the way the question is phrased. Jesse is /not/ a jerk and he never was. He was completely misunderstood. Imagine you’re a performer, your whole reputation lies on your talent and you find someone who understands this and how much it means to you, yet she still decides you’re not good enough to star in her music video and instead gets her two ex boyfriends to sing with her so she looks like she’s ‘musically promiscuous’. That would obviously hurt you, your pride and your ego. So then after he introduced Shelby to Rachel, he went back to Vocal Adrenaline, because literally NOBODY in the New Directions took the chance to know him. Why in the world should he have stayed? Especially since it was evident his girlfriend wanted someone else more than him. So he goes back to Carmel High and they pull a prank on the ND by TPing their choir room. Finn and Puck then get the bright idea to /slash all of their tires/. Is that okay just because they’re the heroes of the show? So Vocal Adrenaline wants to retaliate and they decide to egg New Directions’ star. Keep in mind, they likely had no idea who was behind it and they probably felt Rachel knew about the tire slashing from the beginning. So she was their target. And for Jesse to prove his allegiance to his team, yeah, he egged Rachel. But he didn’t do it just because he found it funny, he was pressured into doing so.

Plus, he came back a year later, still hurting over what he’d done and apologized to her. And she forgave him, THEN she broke his heart in front of thousands of people. If anyone deserves an apology at this point, it’s Jesse St. James.

So yeah, I’m team St. Berry, but Jesse St. James is no jerk.
